Soundspheres is a new pedagogical initiative created in South Holland, targeted to primary and secondary education schools. It intends to promote awareness towards the sonic environment, engaging the kids into field recording, sound mapping and composition with the collected sounds.
As example and inspiration for the students, a few sound artists have been invited to compose a one minute sound sphere using the same tools the kids do, consisting of an online mixer integrated in the sound map. I chose to portrait an specific location near my own home. It is the Haagsche Bos, a forest/park in the center of Den Haag.
My sphere is available online together with the ones from Cilia Erens, Zeno van den Broek, Danny de Graan and of course, the spheres created by the kids.
